American Honey Retrievers
Golden Retrievers For The Field And Family
Who We Are
Welcome to American Honey Retrievers!
We are the Paul family! The dream of owning land has always motivated us; a couple of years ago, we packed up from Utah to Eastern Oklahoma. We are blessed to be able to raise our kids, the dogs and enjoy ranch life on 150 acres of what we now call home!
Our family loves adventures from camping, hiking, finding sheds, and fishing. We can't forget the love of hunting in our family; everything from big game to the birds our dogs retrieve!
My husband and I grew up hunting. Our families have owned many different hunt breeds over the years. A few years ago, we wanted to add to our pack. The research began for a versatile breed that could balance working drive and family companion. We wanted a breed that would fit right into the life we built. It was essential for us to find a quality breeder. We are grateful to have connected with dog lovers who go above and beyond for the breed. Finally, the wait was over, and we added our first field-bred Golden Retriever to our family! Honey is a perfect example of the breed's loving temperament and trainability; she is our program's foundation dog!
Setting Goals
What Drives Us
We are so grateful to have some well-known, respected, and accountable mentors guiding us through the journey!
Our program aims to build its reputation as devoted dog owners, trainers, and sporting competitors and have the reputation as responsible breeders of quality field line Golden Retrievers.
We take these breeding responsibilities very seriously and strive to ensure our pets' health by completing genetic testing, passing OFA certifications, and breeding at a proper age (GRCA Code of Ethics - Golden Retriever Club of America). Combined with seeking low or near breed average COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) for future puppies. To improve and strengthen the breed with each litter by researching pedigrees, taking structure, personality, and trainability into account.
Finally, we hope every one of our puppies will enjoy a fulfilling life from our home to their forever home. While vetting new homes, we consider future owners' performance goals and lifestyles by matching a puppy's personality as best as possible to ensure a proper fit and happy life for all.
Naming The Adventure
It all started with a little pup named Honey... Our name, American Honey Retrievers, has a few meanings to us.
First, it's a nod to our girl Honey; she's the foundation of our program! Additionally, honey is a wordplay on the coat variation of shades in the breed. Last but not least, Americans have loved and adored the Golden Retriever since the breed came to America, and recognized by the AKC in the early 1900s, ever since being labeled "America's dog."
A Commitment Not To Be Taken Lightly
When researching for your next dog, please ask questions and learn all you can about the breed and breeder, whether or not you get a Golden Retriever from our program. Doing your homework and getting a responsibly bred dog is 100% worth it!
Being entrusted with a dog from a responsible breeder, you are not just getting a puppy but also an advocate for the breed, and remember each breeder's family loved that puppy first. We will be there for your family for the rest of your pet's life (10-15 years - more if we're blessed)!
Best of luck with your search!
